Niculoso

Francisco Niculoso (circa 1470-1529), said Niculoso Pisano, is an Italian majolica painter settled in Seville, Spain, in 1498. He is responsible of the tremendous development of the art of azulejos tiles from the sixteenth century, by introducing in Spain the Italian technique of painting on a white tin glaze, like on a table. He painted ceramic panels, signed with his name, that can still be admired in Seville (chapel of the Alcazar, church Santa Ana in Triana, monastery of Santa Paula), or the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
